Join Appear, and you will take on an engaging role as an R&D Manager for some of our dedicated development teams. Headquarter at Lysaker, Appear is a multidisciplinary engineering organization with expertise in hardware, software, and FPGA. Nearly every aspect of our product is developed in-house, and our products and solutions are known for high quality, flexibility and configurability.
As an R&D Manager, you will have a dedicated responsibility for product security, to shape and optimize processes, in addition to leading and nurturing your teams. We’re looking for a hands-on R&D Manager to build out and manage our internal IT infrastructure, day-to-day operations, and security initiatives. In this role, you will oversee and optimize the technology that drives our products, ensuring it remains efficient, secure, and aligned with organizational goals. This position blends strategic planning with day-to-day operations, with a strong focus on cybersecurity. You will play a crucial role, collaborating closely with the VP of Engineering and the R&D Manager team, to build a forward-thinking R&D organization. Are you ready to be part of an exceptional team?
Qualifications
- Technical degree in computer science or a related field
- At least 3-4 years of experience in managerial or team leadership within software development or information security
- Comprehensive knowledge of IT infrastructure, encompassing cloud, network, and server systems, along with a strong grasp of cybersecurity best practices
- Experience / Knowledge in OWASP Top 10 or other security frameworks
- Agile / scrum development
- You are proactive, collaberative and thrive in creating solutions that support our organization alongside with your team
- Proven ability to inspire, mentor, and grow high-performing technical teams
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and a strong analytical approach to complex challenges

Responsibilities
- Shape our R&D organization together with the VP of Engineering and R&D Manager team
- Preparing support and influence training and development material to support our Security Champions with subject matter expertise
- Serve as Line Manager for 2-3 teams with a focus on performance development, coaching, mentorship, and technical excellence
- Conducting security risk assessments and embedding security measures into product design and development
- Establishing and encourage secure coding standards and conducting comprehensive security testing
- Developing and maintaining product incident response protocols and compliance with security standards
- Working with R&D and operations teams to integrate security at every stage and monitor for emerging threats
- Encourage and support Communities of Practice helping to spread knowledge and increase expertise
- Guiding the teams with business context, supporting them in navigating product domains and acquiring new expertise
- Help refine processes and metrics for greater impact and informed decision-making
- Influence and advice on policies for the R&D department and Appear organization
- Create an environment in which teams deliver and improve, and cater for cross functional collaboration
